Despite the last-minute arrivals, the summer transfer window was not quite satisfactory for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The names at the top of his wish list were either ignored or failed to be brought in by the management.
United had a late end to the previous campaign due to their exploits in the Europa League and they have played the greatest number of matches in Europe during the festive period; with a game every 3 days.
Manchester United are in the final stage of securing the signature of Ecuadorian teenager Moises Caicedo. In the remaining half of the window, Solskjaer and his coaching team are looking forward in strengthening the squad to cope with the extremely hectic schedule that awaits them in the remainder in the season. Here are three players who are on the radar of Manchester United this January.
1 Facundo Medina
The young defensive prospect from Argentina is already there under the radar of many big clubs. Medina has already started significant number of games for RC Lens at France. The centre-back can also be used as a left wing back and a Left Centre-back. Manchester United has been struggling to solve the CB pairing, since last season. Both Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof prefers to play as a Right Centre-back. Their defensive record has not been so impressive this season. Addition of Facundo Medina this window can provide them versatility in the squad.
2 Arkadiusz Milik
After failing to impress Napoli manager Gattuso, Milik is considering his future options this window. The centre-forward is yet to feature in a single game this season, as he was left out of Napoli’s Serie A and Europa League squads.
The 26-year-old Polish international is valued at around €15 million by the club, but his contract expires in 6 months. He was strongly linked with Juventus last summer.
Currently, AS Roma are the only other side in the race for Milik’s signature. With Odion Ighalo returning to china and Edinson Cavani struggling to find the fitness to feature for 90 minutes, Milik’s signing will give United another option.
3 Nikola Milenkovic
Manchester United have been facing serious defensive problems from the start of the season. Due to the strong interest from Bayern, Dayot Upamecano seems like an impossible dream for the Red Devils.
Now, United may freshen up their pursuit of Fiorentina centre back, Nikola Milenkovic, this January. Fiorentina refused to sell the Serbian last summer to Spurs. But recent reports from Italy indicates that the Club CEO Pantaleo Corvino is ready to listen to offers.
