Arsenal have made an approach to sign Real Madrid youngster Martin Odegaard on loan till the end of the season, according to Sky Sports.
The Norwegian international has reportedly requested Zinedine Zidane to let him move out on loan till the end of the season due to the lack of playing time at the Spanish capital. Real Madrid who have a plethora of young stars might not be able to provide Odegaard with enough minutes this season, therefore, the Madrid board are considering the offer from the Premier League side who have promised first-team football for the midfielder. The player is also keen and excited by the prospect of playing in the Premier League.
The youngster featured 12 times this season for Madrid but failed to get on the scoresheet on each occasion. The 22-year-old joined the Los Blancos in 2015 and was seen as the next big thing in football.
The Gunners who are having an up and down season in the Premier League are desperate to add creativity to their midfield. Getting Odegaard’s signature could be a turning point for Arsenal this season because his quality will definitely be a huge lift for the North London side as they look to close the gap with the other sides and finish in one of the European spots. The Norwegian’s arrival would also help ease the creativity burden carried by youngster Emile Smith-Rowe in their midfield.
The Gunners, however, face strong competition from La Liga side Real Sociedad who want their former star back at the San Sebastián outfit. Odegaard spent his last season on loan at Sociedad where he scored seven goals and claimed nine assists in 36 appearances across all competitions before Real Madrid called him back to be part of the first-team squad.
