After securing David Alaba’s signature, Real Madrid now turn their attention towards Eduardo Camavinga as they look to bolster their midfield unit. The Spanish giants have even made the Rennes midfielder their top priority in the summer.
However, according to reports from Italy, Juventus have reportedly turned their attention away from Paul Pogba to Camavinga. Juventus sporting directors Pavel Nedved and Fabio Paratici view Pogba as too expensive to afford, amidst the club’s current financial situation due to the coronavirus pandemic. Hence they have decided to focus their attention on signing Camavinga.
Camavinga can provide backup for Casemiro in the holding midfield role and Kroos or Modric in the slightly advanced roles. Being just 18 years old, he is also a smart long-term investment and could well forge a formidable midfield partnership alongside Federico Valverde and Casemiro in the coming years.
Los Blancos also have their eyes on PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe as well. However, he will not come in cheaply. The expected fee is over 100 million euros, which is a stumbling block given the current uncertainty of COVID-19. Mbappe only has a year and a half left in his PSG contract, and on Monday the club’s sporting director Leonardo said he expects that both Mbappe and Neymar would stay, but recognised it had to be the players’ desire.
A product of the Rennes youth academy, the midfielder has already become a first-team regular at Rennes. His work-rate, tenacity and a remarkable understanding of the game has even made him the most important player in Julien Stephan’s tactical setup. He has played over 60 games in Ligue 1 and 4 games in the Champions League.
Until the deal is announced, a move to Madrid remains just speculation and Juventus can still sign him from under their noses.
