Ligue 1 side interested in signing Jesse Lingard

  • admin

Jesse Lingard could be on the verge of leaving Manchester United after reports emerged that the player’s representatives have held initial talks with Ligue 1 side Nice.
According to Sky Sports, the French club have contacted Jesse Lingard’s entourage over a possible loan move in January.
It’s claimed that the French club have held initial discussions and a formal offer is expected to arrive next week, although it remains to be seen if the Red Devils will allow him to depart Old Trafford halfway through the season.
The 27-year-old started United’s FA Cup win over Watford on Saturday but has not started a Premier League game for over a year. Lingard’s only other appearances this season have come in the EFL Cup. He started in the third-round win over Luton and was then brought on late in the fourth-round victory over Brighton.
The United academy graduate scored only four goals in 40 appearances across all competitions last season. At the same time, he has not represented his country since England played in the UEFA Nations League Finals in June 2019.
Lingard, who earns around £100,000-per-week at Old Trafford, has outlived his usefulness. Greenwood has emerged as a reliable option on the right-wing and in contrast, James too has started to show flashes of his obvious potential. United also have promising young talents Amad Diallo and Facundo Pellistri waiting in the wings.
