The tug of war continues between Germany and England for Jamal Musiala as FC Bayern Munich starlet has uprisen to be one of the most luminous young talents in world football.
Musiala was born to a Nigerian father and German mother in Stuttgart and he later moved to Southampton at the age of 7. Currently playing for England U21, the chances are not sleek for the German-born to change his allegiance.
German tabloid Bild had lately affirmed that Musiala will choose to play for the German national team. Interestingly, the former Chelsea academy prodigy has already represented both Germany and England at the youth international level. Jamal Musiala’s performances have impressed a lot of onlookers and one of them is German international and his Bayern teammate Serge Gnabry.
“Ain’t chance we’re letting that talent go! I’m striving my best (to get him for Germany). He’s a great, great player”, Gnabry told The Daily Mail.
On the other horizon, England and Chelsea forward Callum Hudson-Odoi is urging Jamal to join the Three Lions. “I said to him, ‘I can’t choose for you but it would be nice if you stayed with England.’ Hopefully he gets to the seniors as quickly as possible,” he said.
Last November, according to the German head of academy coaching MeikelSchonweitz, Musiala confirmed that he wants to represent England.
“Not least because of his involvement with the DFB in the past, we have of course been concerned with Jamal Musiala and showed him what we can offer. However, he has signalled to us that he currently sees his future with England, We accept his decision and wish him all the best for his sporting career.” Schonweitz told Süddeutsche Zeitung.
It is certainly confusing between what was assumed before and the way things are shaping up right now about Musiala’s international career.
Amidst all of these, Manchester United has been linked with a move for the Bayern youngster recently which will eventually become a rebuff for Germany’s dreams of pursuing Musiala. Bayern is still working on contract negotiations with the player, Musiala’s wage demands are reportedly holding up the contract negotiation as the player demands £100,000-a-week despite making just 20 senior appearances for the Bundesliga greats.
Several reports claim that Liverpool, Manchester City, and Tottenham are also following the player.
