AC Milan forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic says he is thrilled to play alongside veteran striker Mario Mandzukic, who was officially announced as a Milan player this week. Mandzukic, who was a free agent after his departure from Qatari outfit Al Duhail, is the latest addition to the Italian giants’ roster in January.
The Swedish superstar said that the two veteran goal scorers will scare the opposition defenders when they play together up front. He believes that the addition of both Mandzukic and French midfielder Soualiho Meite, who joined from Torino earlier this month, will be a huge positive for the Milan side who are currently flying top in the league.
Ibrahimovic is wreaking havoc in the Italian Serie A with 12 goals from 8 matches even at the age of 39. His brace helped Milan overcome Cagliari on Monday. “I am very happy,” The big Swede told Sky. “There will be two of us to scare the opponents now! So far we are doing well. We are almost halfway through the league and now the games are starting to be more difficult,”
“It will be a very tough season, but now with Mandzukic and Meite, and I don’t know if others will arrive, we will have more players available for the coach that can rotate in, he added.”
Milan manager Stefano Pioli is also quite delighted to have the opportunity to manage both the veteran strikers. He said he is very excited to see two of them competing with each other for a spot in the starting line up and going forward. Speaking about the playing time, Pioli said “I tell them that the quantity of minutes is not important, but the quality. When the club proposed it (signing Mandzukic) to me, I immediately said yes, I spoke to him, he’s very motivated, he’s a winner”
Milan currently sits at the top of the Serie A ladder with a three-point lead over city rivals Inter who are lurking behind in second place. Next up for Pioli’s side is a clash with Atalanta in the league before the much-anticipated Milan derby in the Copa Italia quarter-finals.
