European heavyweights target Sergio Aguero

  • admin

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is out of contract in the summer and is rumoured to be on the wish list of both Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, according to the Sun.

With only 6 months left on his deal, Aguero is free to speak with clubs outside England and agree on a pre-contract. The chances of him agreeing on a new deal with City seems unlikely at this point, the Argentinian might be off to Barcelona or Paris in the summer.

Having let Luis Suarez join Atletico Madrid, Barcelona lack a proper number nine in their squad and there aren’t many better in Europe than the 32-year-old. He is the highest-scoring foreign player in the premier league having netted 180 times in 268 games for City.

However, it has to be seen whether this deal would materialise considering the financial crisis Barcelona are in right now. Though it will be a free transfer, Aguero’s high wages could be a problem.

Lionel Messi and Aguero have a good relationship and linking up with Aguero is something Messi would relish if he opts to stay at Barcelona for the next season. Messi’s contract is also up in the summer and City are one amongst the clubs interested in him.

PSG’s all-time leading scorer Edinson Cavani left the club in the summer and finding a top-quality replacement for the Uruguayan will be one of the few things new boss Mauricio Pochettino plans to do in the summer. The French champions are financially hit by the collapse of Ligue 1’s broadcast deal and with only 2 years left on the contracts of both Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, PSG might have to cash in on at least one of them this summer. In any case, Aguero on a free transfer will be a shrewd acquisition for them.

Aguero is currently in isolation after being in close contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19 and will likely miss City’s next couple of games in the league.
